Yea sorry I have been very busy lately learning C++ and Python as well as re-learning HTML and PHP. I also have been busy managing all my websites as well as school.

Because you asked a question about using the featured site module (on a page about custom domains) and I used the community playground to do some testing before answering your question. I'm the old man here, but I'm not the one suffering memory loss! ;-)

Why? by Joshua DarbyJoshua Darby, 21 Sep 2016 01:33

It seems to work fine (unless I'm guessing at the wrong Wikidot name):
live test

[[module FeaturedSite]]
bitmag.wikidot.com
[[/module]]

I have tried that as well, in fact when the .ml domain didn't work that was the first thing I tried.

Try using the non-custom domain name for your site:

[[module FeaturedSite]]
bitmag.wikidot.com
[[/module]]

It looks like Wikidot isn't handling the ".ml" domain properly.

You should really ask these type of questions in the main community forum, not the playground site. I only saw this because I'm watching this site for reasons I can't explain. ;-)

So on my blog I went to use the FeaturedSite Module. Well on one of my sites http://bitmag.ml which is hosted By Wikidot is says "The requested site cannot be found on Wikidot.com." What's with that, is it a bug?

I have removed the search box on a couple of sites where it was serving no useful purpose. To remove it add this to your main CSS:

#search-top-box {
    display:none;
}

I cannot answer this question - could be with CSS to display off the search fields..

BUT: a "search thru a wiki" is one of the fundamental functionalities of a wiki.

What you perhaps mean / need is a special search with some categorties switched off? (you can make them "private" - only visible for admins)

Would I be able to take the "Search Site" function off for one of my sites or does that go along with editing/altering footer properties? The site that I am talking about is:
http://deltaacademyhwhelp.wikidot.com/

He's actually making it harder for users! Anyone who signs up for his system and who then wants or is allowed to edit a site will still have to have a Wikidot account unless he sets the edit permissions to anonymous in which case he can't see who's edited pages.

  • "I want members to register for free and access my members' area after they verify their email address"

This is exact the same what wikidot does - controlling the accounts by email adress verifying.

And: a "private" site cannot be viewn by non wikidot accounts ( they are anonymous to wikdiot)
and: a "closed" site can be viewn by all ( also anonymous ).

I see no useful advantage … I see only the business spam link to an outer business!

a lot of people who want to see the requested site (private & even closed) must have a Wikidot account

No, anyone can view a closed site even if they don't have a Wikidot account.

Like Helmut, I don't really see the point of this. I think everything you want to do can be done via categories and permissions and you just seem to be creating another username and password system, so why not use the Wikidot account system?

With this site (Wikidot) a lot of people who want to see the requested site (private & even closed) must have a Wikidot account. When they create an account they would only want to view the site and not edit in most cases. I am a good example of this. On my Delta Academy LV1 account I created a site in which the students can use the site i.e the forum/simple-chat, viewing the site, and for us keeping track of who uses the site: Delta Academy HW Help2. This is supposed to be an alternative for educational sites and even business sites to manage their users for free and not have to go through making a database on which they do not even know what they are doing. The best part is —- this service is free and does not have the hassle of making people create an account that they don't need.

Hi,
i do not understand the advantage of such extra filter for memberships on a second account site if the standard account setup of wikidot is doing the same…

If you need a private site - which allows in the free account only 5 members ( and more in the reading only part!) then there is the difference only 5 members more in the free account type of this extra business, and they cannot comment or post or edit something ( without membership of wikidot iself ) in your site.

If you need more members you have to pay this extra account business with a monthly fee which is equal the first upgrade-costs of wikidots pro light.

And they cannot do anything on wikidot without creating their own account on wikidot also.

I see no advantage for such extra filter.

post a bug! repeating your question on differrent community sites will not help. the developer does not read in most cases community problems..
